Why
probiotics are important to your health
A probiotic is an organism which contributes to the health
and balance of the intestinal tract. A probiotic is also referred
to as "friendly", "beneficial", or "good"
bacteria which when ingested maintains a healthy intestinal
tract and helps fight illness and disease.
Probiotics are becoming an important part of many individual’s
healthy lifestyles because a balanced intestinal flora can
make a lot of difference in the way you feel, and how healthy
and energetic you are. Everyone has billions of live bacteria
living in their intestines. A healthy lower intestine should
contain at least 85% friendly bacteria to prevent the over
colonization of disease causing micro-organisms like E. coli
and salmonella. Our colon can maintain its health with 15%
unfriendly bacteria, if the body contains at least 85% probiotic
friendly bacteria. Most people have this percentage reversed.
The secret to good health lies in the friendly bacteria
in the intestinal tract.
Good health depends fundamentally upon the more than 400
types of friendly, symbiotic bacteria that inhabit the digestive
tract. Lactobacillus bacteria form a significant part of the
natural intestinal flora. Large populations of this, and other
lactic acid producing bacteria, regulate the levels of friendly
bacteria and reduce the levels of toxic pathogens that cause
ill health.
We are exposed to numerous pollutants in our everyday lives:
lead, mercury, cadmium (plus over 4500 toxic heavy metal by-products),
drugs, vaccines and a host of other dangers that are wreaking
havoc in our bodies. As the toxin levels rise in our bodies,
our immune system and other critical processes in our bodies
become dangerously compromised and begin to fail.
Lactic acid producing lactobacilli bacteria alter the pH
of the large intestine, making it inhospitable to these undesirable
toxins, bacteria, moulds, mould spores and yeast, particularly
Candida. Putrefactive bacteria, which are potentially detrimental
to good health and increase foul wind production, are inhibited
by acidic conditions in the colon.
